Notepad: text editor

notepadNotepad is a simple text editor for Microsoft Windows and is included in all versions of Microsoft Windows since Windows 1.0 in 1985.

Notepad is a common text-only (plain text) editor. The resulting files—typically saved with the . txt extension—have no format tags or styles, making the program suitable for editing system files that are to be used in a DOS environment.

Notepad supports both left-to-right and right-to-left based languages, and one can alternate between these viewing formats by using the right or left Ctrl+Shift keys to go to right-to-left format or left-to-right format, respectively.

Solution

This user friendly application will benefit people in any office environment.  There is always a need to copy and paste information.  The information is very varied in content and is probably copied from internal business sources among departments, company branches,  internet (web),  intranet (internal web), a supplier and many other areas of business.  When copying,  all the background “coding” is included which is what makes the end result look very “pear shaped” (distorted).

Note: Background coding includes a Microsoft Word document; the background coding is the paragraph style, indents, tables etc.

Benefits of Using Notepad

Notepad ONLY reads text and excludes all other information ie. tables, graphics, text formats etc.  The result is a more manageable document.  Once the information is copied to Notepad check the spacing and correct where necessary.  Notepad text format must also be checked and set to Word Wrap before copying to another programme.

Notepad does not require a lock  on the file it opens, so it can open files already opened by other processes, users or computers. Also, since Notepad lacks advanced formatting functionality, many people find its simple interface faster and easier to use for basic text operations.
